Tennessee Freshman RHP DJ McDowell Enters Transfer Portal

KNOXVILLE – After not seeing the field during his freshman campaign at Tennessee, right-handed pitcher DJ McDowell has entered the NCAA transfer portal following one season on Rocky Top, as first reported by Mike Wilson of VolQuest.

McDowell, a Lassiter High School product from Atlanta, was a top-300 prospect in Perfect Game’s 2025 recruiting rankings and rated the No. 5 right-handed pitcher in Georgia. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 196 pounds, he departs Tennessee without an appearance.

McDowell becomes the 17th Volunteer to enter the transfer portal, joining infielders Ethan Moore, Ariel Antigua, Finley Bates and Manny Marin; outfielders Jay Abernathy, Hutson Chance and Nate Eisfelder; utility players Chris Newstrom and Hunter High; pitchers Brayden Krenzel, Ari Bethea, Taylor Tracey, Nic Abraham and Sawyer Deering; first baseman and left-hander Evan Hankins; and catcher/outfielder Cash Williams.
