Freshman Pitcher Jax Bishop Departing Tennessee After One Season

KNOXVILLE – After playing sparingly during his freshman season on Rocky Top, Tennessee right-handed pitcher Jax Bishop is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal following one year in Knoxville, as first reported by Mike Wilson of VolQuest.

Bishop appeared in 5 games for the Vols in 2026, making no starts while posting a 0-0 record and a 3.38 ERA. The Rome (Ga.) native, who attended Baylor School in Chattanooga, struck out 5 batters across 2.2 innings. He made his collegiate debut against Oakland, striking out 1 in an inning of work.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, Bishop becomes the 18th Volunteer to enter the transfer portal, joining infielders Ethan Moore, Ariel Antigua, Finley Bates and Manny Marin; outfielders Jay Abernathy, Hutson Chance and Nate Eisfelder; utility players Chris Newstrom and Hunter High; pitchers Brayden Krenzel, Ari Bethea, Taylor Tracey, Nic Abraham, Sawyer Deering and DJ McDowell; first baseman and left-hander Evan Hankins; and catcher/outfielder Cash Williams.
