KNOXVILLE – That’s a rather unexpected departure for Rick Barnes.

Tennessee junior forward Cade Phillips is entering the transfer portal after three seasons in Knoxville, On3’s Joe Tipton reported Friday.

Phillips appeared in 61 career games for the Volunteers, averaging 3.7 points and 4.0 rebounds during an injury riddled Tennessee career.

The 6‑foot‑9, 221‑pound Jacksonville (AL) native was limited to just 10 games during his junior campaign, starting 9 of those before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Phillips’ departure adds to a frontcourt already facing major turnover. With senior Felix Okpara also moving on, Rick Barnes and his staff are expected to be aggressive in the transfer portal when it officially opens April 7.
