Expect a sea of orange in Starkville when Tennessee takes the field Saturday afternoon.
Mississippi State announced on Tuesday that its matchup with the Vols will be a sellout at Davis Wade Stadium.
The program’s first sellout since September of 2018, when the Bulldogs hosted former head coach Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators in his return to Starkville.
Bulldog fans are calling this one of the most anticipated home games in years, with projections that the crowd could be the largest of the decade, potentially surpassing the 60,412 who packed Davis Wade Stadium for the 2023 Egg Bowl.
For the Volunteers, this signals its first visit to Starkville since 2012, when Mississippi State topped Tennessee 41-31.
The sellout highlights the importance of Saturday afternoon’s matchup, with Mississippi State aiming to start 5-0 for the first time since 2014 and Tennessee looking to avoid an 0-2 start in SEC play for the first time since 2019.
With Vol fans expected to travel in large numbers, Davis Wade stadium could look like a wave of orange when the fat lady sings.
