KNOXVILLE – Lady Vols softball enters SEC Tournament play on Wednesday ranked No. 6 nationally after climbing five spots from No. 11 in the latest Softball America poll. Tennessee finished the regular season at 42-9 overall and 16-8 in SEC play following a 3-1 week that included a road series win over Missouri in Columbia.
Head coach Karen Weekly and her staff secured the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament, giving the Lady Vols a first round bye. Tennessee will face the winner of No. 12 seed South Carolina and No. 13 seed Ole Miss on Wednesday evening at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington.
With the Lady Vols almost certain to host an NCAA Regional at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium as a top 16 seed, the focus now shifts to positioning for a top 8 national seed. Tennessee may need at least one win this week to solidify that spot before the NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on SEC Network. The winner will advance to face No. 4 seed Texas on Thursday evening.
