Tennessee product Garrett Crochet unleashed one of the most electric postseason starts in recent memory against the Yankees on Tuesday night.

The left-handed ace for the Boston Red Sox, threw 117 pitches across 7 ⅔ innings, striking out eleven Yankees hitters while allowing just one run and zero walks in Boston’s 3-1 win over New York in Game 1 of the Wild Card series.

Crochet pounded the strike zone from the first pitch, retiring 17 straight at one point and going two full hours – from 6:32 to 8:32 p.m. ET – without allowing a Yankees baserunner.

His dominance was on full display in the eighth inning, when on pitch No. 117 he unleashed a 100 mph fastball past Austin Wells for a strikeout.

What an absolute MANIAC.

For Vol fans, the performance was especially significant, as Crochet was the first first-round pick of the Tony Vitello era in Knoxville, and his masterclass on the postseason stage adds to the list of former Volunteers making noise in the majors.

With the Red Sox now holding a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series, Crochet’s brilliance on the mound has not only given Boston the edge against their archrivals but also established him as one of the postseason’s biggest stars.

Game 2 of the series is set for tonight at 6:08 p.m. ET, with Boston looking to punch its ticket to the ALDS.
