Wake Coach Says He Doesn’t Remember Calling Andrew Fischer A F*****

By Cody McClure

You’ve probably seen it by now.

Wake Forest baseball coach Tom Walter is in hot water today after allegedly calling Tennessee’s Andrew Fischer an anti-gay slur during last night’s HUGE 11-5 VOLS VICTORY.

It was the one with an F and two G’s that ends with a T.

And based on the videos that surfaced of Walter’s lips moving, it would have been nearly impossible for him to deny saying it:

“No, no! I had my wife on speaker phone and wanted her to tell the boy at the grocery store to BAG IT.”

Wouldn’t have really worked.

So now Walter is apologizing. Even though he apparently doesn’t remember the moment he said it.

Maybe he says it a lot?

“I am very sorry for my outburst in frustration last night and I recognize the hurt and disappointment it has caused,” Walter said. “I have seen the videos and while I do not remember the specific moment clearly, that language doesn’t reflect my values or the standards of this program.

“Regardless, I own the consequences and I apologize to the University of Tennessee, to Wake Forest University, and the SEC & ACC.”

Will Wake’s coach be fired over this? A predominantly liberal higher education institution almost certainly can’t be OK with this.

I mean for Christ’s sake, Tom, it’s pride month. Terrible timing.

Wake Forest athletic director John Currie definitely wasn’t happy about it:

“I am both surprised and deeply disappointed in our head baseball coach Tom Walter for his outburst during last night’s baseball game,” Currie said. “I feel badly for those most hurt by such words. I spoke with Coach Walter immediately after the game and again this morning to address this incident, which is completely out of character for him and does not meet the standards of Wake Forest Athletics, Wake Forest University or the Atlantic Coast Conference.”

Who would have thought that the first time Tennessee fans would hear from Currie after his departure from UT several years ago would be because he had to apologize for his coach calling someone the “F” word.

We’ll see if ole Tom can make it out of this one with his job.

Meanwhile, this Big Orange train is full steam ahead to the Super Regionals.

Check out Fischer blasting a home run immediately after being called the anti-gay slur.

Very cool:
