KNOXVILLE – Tennessee sophomore right-hander Tegan Kuhns has earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in his career, the conference announced Monday, after a dominant showing in the Vols’ series win against No. 13 Alabama.
The Gettysburg (PA) native has been on a tear since returning to the starting rotation following a brief stint in the bullpen, and Friday’s performance was his best yet. In the opener of Tennessee’s Friday doubleheader, Kuhns fired an eight-inning, three-hit complete game shutout to even the series, marking the first complete game shutout of his career. He struck out 9 Crimson Tide hitters and walked just one as Tennessee rolled to a 10-0 run rule victory as Kuhns becomes the first Tennessee pitcher to earn SEC Pitcher of the Week since Liam Doyle in April of 2025.
That wasn’t the only award the Box Office Vols acquired. Freshman catcher Trent Grindlinger was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week after going 8-15 with three home runs and six RBIs, including three multi hit games during Tennessee’s four game week.
Tennessee continues its nine-game homestand Tuesday night against West Georgia before heading to Kentucky for a three game SEC series beginning Friday evening.
