KNOXVILLE – In case you missed it last night, Tennessee added its fifth commitment out of the transfer portal late Monday, landing South Carolina left-hander Jake McCoy, he announced on social media.

McCoy, a native of Fort Mill (SC), missed the entire 2026 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery after suffering an offseason injury. A risk in next month’s MLB Draft, the southpaw posted a 4-5 record as a sophomore in 2025, recording a 6.90 ERA across 14 appearances, all starts, in the Gamecocks’ weekend rotation. He struck out 77 batters in 60 innings while issuing 40 walks.

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, McCoy chose Tennessee over LSU and a potential return to South Carolina. He becomes the second left-handed pitcher to announce his transfer to Rocky Top, joining Northwestern State product Brody Trosclair.
