Vols In The League: How Former VFLs Fared In NFL Week 3

Week 3 of the NFL season featured a number of former Volunteers making their presence felt across the league.

Here’s a rundown of how the VFLs performed this week.

James Pearce (Atlanta Falcons DE)

Pearce recorded one pass defended but no other statistics in Atlanta’s 30-0 loss to Carolina.

Joshua Palmer (Buffalo Bills WR)

Finished with one reception for five yards in the Bills’ 31-21 win over Miami on Thursday Night Football.

Cade Mays (Carolina Panthers OL)

In his first start of the season, Mays logged all 58 offensive snaps at center and did not allow a sack in Carolina’s 30-0 win over Atlanta.

Darnell Wright (Chicago Bears OL)

Allowed two quarterback pressures in the Bears’ 31-14 win over the Cowboys.

Dylan Sampson (Cleveland Browns RB)

Sampson played sparingly in Cleveland’s win over Green Bay, finishing with two yards on one carry.

Cedric Tillman (Cleveland Browns WR)

Caught three passes for 26 yards in the Browns’ 13-10 win over the Packers.

​​Joe Milton III (Dallas Cowboys QB)

Went 3-of-5 for 41 yards with an interception after replacing Dak Prescott in Dallas’ loss to Chicago.

Kamal Hadden (Green Bay Packers CB)

Hadden was a healthy scratch on Sunday for the Packers.

Derek Barnett (Houston Texans DE)

Played 27 defensive snaps on Sunday but did not record any stats in Houston’s loss to Jacksonville.

Darrell Taylor (Houston Texans DE)

Taylor was inactive for the Texans on Sunday.

Jakob Johnson (Houston Texans FB)

Signed to the active roster last week, Johnson played 21% of the offensive snaps in Houston’s 17-10 defeat to Jacksonville.

Omarr Norman-Lott (Kansas City Chiefs DT)

Recorded two tackles in the Chiefs’ 22-9 victory over the Giants on Sunday Night.

Trey Smith (Kansas City Chiefs OL)

Played every offensive snap and didn’t allow a sack in Kansas City’s win over the Giants.

Jaylen McCollough (Los Angeles Rams SAF)

Recorded two tackles, including this big first-quarter sack on Jalen Hurts.

Byron Young (Los Angeles Rams LB)

Also notched a sack in the Rams’ defeat to the Eagles, finishing with six tackles and three tackles for loss.

Dont’e Thornton Jr. (Las Vegas Raiders WR)

Hauled in two catches for 29 yards in Las Vegas’ 41-24 loss to Washington.

Matthew Butler (Miami Dolphins DE)

Recorded one tackle on 13 defensive snaps as the Dolphins fell 31-21 to Buffalo, dropping to 0-3.

Jaylen Wright (Miami Dolphins RB)

Wright was inactive Sunday as he continues to recover from a leg procedure.

Theo Jackson (Minnesota Vikings SAF)

Forced a fumble and added one tackle as the Vikings dominated the Bengals, 48-10.

Joshua Dobbs (New England Patriots Quarterback)

Dobbs did not see any game action in the Patriots’ 21-14 loss to Pittsburgh.

Alontae Taylor (New Orleans Saints Cornerback)

Finished with two tackles and a pass breakup in New Orleans’ defeat to Seattle.

Velus Jones Jr. (New Orleans Saints RB)

Jones did not record any game stats in New Orleans' loss to Seattle.

Alvin Kamara (New Orleans Saints RB)

Kamara rushed for 42 yards on 18 carries  and added one reception for 14 yards in the Saints’ 44-13 loss to the Seahawks.

Jalin Hyatt (New York Giants WR)

Hyatt was active for the third straight week for New York, but once again recorded zero offensive stats in the Giants’ 22-9 loss to Kansas City on Sunday Night Football.

Jauan Jennings (San Francisco 49ers WR)

Jennings missed Sunday’s win over Arizona with shoulder and ankle injuries.

Morgan Cox (Tennessee Titans LS)

Started at long snapper for the Titans’ 41-20 loss to Indianapolis.

Shy Tuttle (Tennessee Titans DT)

Tuttle played 35% of the defensive snaps in his season debut, recording one tackle in Tennessee’s loss to the Colts.
