Marcus Phillips will get the nod for Tennessee on the mound today vs. Alabama.
He is 3-4 on the season and boasts a 3.72 ERA with 80 strikeouts.
It was suggested in comments made by Tony Vitello yesterday that Phillips would be the starting pitcher vs. the Crimson Tide and this afternoon Vol Baseball made it official.
With that said, we may likely see a handful of other pitchers today, too.
Phillips was solid in his last outing vs. Arkansas, helping lead the Vols to a 10-7 win in game one in Fayetteville.
In his game two start vs. Alabama earlier in the season, a game in which the Vols also won 10-7, Phillips allowed just four hits while striking out three batters.
Tennessee went on to win the series in Tuscaloosa, two games to one.
Today’s contest will be win-or-go-home with top seed Texas awaiting the winner tomorrow.
First pitch is at 2 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
