The ESPN FPI Is Still In Love With Vol Football Despite The QB Situation

You’re probably not thinking a whole lot about Tennessee Football right now.
Vol Baseball has the fan base’s attention for the most part with their usual postseason success.
And vibes seem to be much better around the basketball team with a completed transfer portal roster and the addition of 5-star Nate Ament.
Poor King Football took a monumental blow this offseason with the departure of starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
And things have been mostly quiet over in the football department since then.
Still, we’re just 88 days away from the season opener against Syracuse, and by then, we’ll all be excited about the team.
Whether or not it’s going to be any good is another discussion. But we’ll be there fired up like always.
With the black cloud that’s seemingly been hanging over the program recently, I was pleased to read today that ESPN’s Football Power Index still loves the Vols.
Tennessee comes in ranked as the 10th-best team in America, per the FPI.
The Vols trail only Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas A&M in the SEC in terms of the metrics.
Texas, Georgia, and Bama are 1-2-3 with a trio of Big Ten teams — Ohio State, Penn State, and Oregon — and Notre Dame behind them.
Then you’ve got A&M 8th, Miami 9th, and Tennessee 10th, ahead of the likes of Clemson, LSU, and Ole Miss.
Moreover, the Vols’ have the SEC’s fourth-best odds to make the College Football Playoff, according to the FPI:
