Tennessee Baseball has had its fair share of VFLs come through the program since the Tony Vitello era began.
Christian Moore, Blake Burke, Drew Beam, Drew Gilbert, Trey Lipscomb, etc.
A name that will be remembered for a very long time that played his last game yesterday in a Vols jersey was Hunter Ensley.
Ensley played for UT for five seasons and accomplished winning a national title, going to Omaha three times, five super regional berths, and two SEC titles.
Ensley was a pivotal piece of the national title team and showed what the University meant to him crashing into the wall at full speed to make a ridiculous play at the CWS and possibly saving the season by his incredible slide at home to beat Texas A&M in the title game.
“It’s been everything I’ve dreamed of growing up. This is the place that I wanted to play at,” Ensley said yesterday after the game.
Ensley, while being born in Alaska, grew up in the west Tennessee town of Huntingdon.
Wearing the orange and white obviously meant a lot to him and he showed everything it meant to him when he came back this season to run it back one last time and to be a leader of this team.
In the world of NIL, transfer portal, and the me only mentality, Ensley showed what it meant to exemplify being a Vol For Life.
Thank you Hunter for everything you did for this team, the University of Tennessee, and the city of Knoxville. You left the program better than you found it.
