Texas Would Have Beat The Shit Out Of Tennessee Last Year Says This Guy
By Cody McClure
Would Texas have beat the shit out of Tennessee last year if the two teams had met on the gridiron?
Some guy in the Texas media seems to think so.
On a hit with SEC Mike’s “That SEC Podcast,” Bobby Burton of “On Texas Football” made the brash statement:
“Texas plays Tennessee last year, Texas beats the shit out of Tennessee.”
SEC Mike posted the clip and added, “these Texas egos are out of control!”
Is Bobby talking about that same Texas team that beat Vanderbilt 27-24?
The one that got absolutely smoked by Georgia on their home field and then lost to the Bulldogs again despite UGA not having their starting QB?
Now look, I’m not saying Tennessee didn’t have some low moments, too. The Vols lost at Arkansas. Texas won at Arkansas.
Tennessee also lost convincingly to Georgia (not at home though).
So I’m not even saying Tennessee was better than Texas. But to say Texas would “beat the shit” out of Tennessee seems silly.
Both teams made the College Football Playoff last season and lost to Ohio State.
It’s not like the Vols were a bunch of scrubs.
What was Texas’ best win of the year? A&M? Clemson? The ‘Horns lost all three of the big games they played.
Tennessee-Texas certainly would have been a low-scoring defensive struggle. The home team would have probably come out on top.
I don’t know who would have won, but it wouldn’t have been a shit-kicking.
“No regrets making this statement,” Burton said. “Sometimes the truth hurts.”
