KNOXVILLE – The Box Office Vols return to Lindsey Nelson Stadium this evening as Tennessee hosts in-state opponent Belmont in the final home game of the regular season. Tennessee enters at 34-18 and 13-14 in SEC play after taking two of three from No. 4 Texas over the weekend, a series that featured multiple players see career-days.
Tegan Kuhns set the tone Friday with a career night that earned him SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks. The sophomore right-hander struck out 15 batters across 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and walking just one while throwing 113 pitches in a 5-1 win.
Saturday night brought another offensive outburst as six different Volunteers homered in a 14 to 9 victory. Tennessee scored 14 runs on 16 hits to clinch the series and had the Longhorns their second series loss of the season.
Mother’s Day Sunday saw a breakout performance from Reese Chapman, who launched a first inning grand slam and added a two-run homer in the sixth. His career day was not enough to complete the sweep after right-hander Landon Mack was scratched from his start, as Texas avoided the sweep with a 13-6 win in its first ever trip to Knoxville.
Tennessee has not yet announced a starting pitcher for tonight’s matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on SEC Network Plus as the Vols prepare to travel to Norman for a three-game series with Oklahoma to close out the regular season in Josh Elander’s debut year as head coach.
