Tennessee Baseball lost its fifth straight — and sixth of the last seven — SEC series to close out the regular season.
The Vols won Friday night 10-7 after a decent pitching effort from Marcus Phillips accompanied by a hitting performance that seemed to be on the uptick.
Unfortunately, day two and three went about how you’d expect given the last two months’ results.
This time, and for the first time, it was Liam Doyle whose pitching let Tennessee down on Friday.
The Hogs took two out of three over the Vols with an 8-6 win Friday and an 8-4 win Saturday.
As a result, the polls are not favorable for the Vols.
D1 Baseball dropped Tennessee all the way to 21st while Baseball America had the Vols plummeting to 23rd. Perfect Game ranked UT 24th.
USA Today was the only publication to rank the Vols in the Top 20 — at No. 17.
Tennessee (41-15, 16-14) is an 8-seed in the SEC Tournament this week and will take the diamond again on Wednesday against the winner of (9) Alabama and (16) Missouri.
First pitch from Hoover, Alabama is at 10:30 a.m. ET on the SEC Network.
