The Vols could potentially have the nation’s top cornerback duo in the coming weeks.
According to a report from the ultra-accurate Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, cornerback Jermod McCoy is targeting a return when the Volunteers host Arkansas on Oct. 11.
McCoy has not seen the field yet this season as he continues to rehab from a torn ACL suffered in January.
The Whitehouse, Texas native underwent surgery in the offseason and has been gradually working his way back, taking part in limited drills but not yet cleared for game action.
The possible return of McCoy would be a crucial boost for the Vols, who currently allow 256.5 passing yards per game– the second most in the SEC, behind only Kentucky.
Emerging in 2024 as one of the SEC’s top defensive backs, McCoy earned Second-Team All-American honors after posting 44 tackles, nine pass breakups, and four interceptions in his first season in Knoxville following a transfer from Oregon State.
If McCoy’s recovery stays on track, Oct. 11 against Arkansas in Neyland could serve as his long-awaited return– and a key addition before the Vols head to Tuscaloosa the following week.
