Tennessee baseball will be naming longtime pitching coach Frank Anderson as interim head coach following Tony Vitello’s departure to the San Francisco Giants, as first reported by Eric Cain of VolQuest.

Anderson has been a cornerstone of Tennessee’s success since joining Vitello’s staff in June of 2017.

Over the past eight seasons, Anderson’s pitching staffs have ranked among the nation’s best, finishing top 20 nationally in ERA, WHIP, and strikeout-to-walk ratio in seven of those years.

During his time in Knoxville, 25 Vol pitchers have been selected in the MLB Draft, including four first-round picks, Liam Doyle, Marcus Phillips, Chase Dollander, and Garrett Crochet.

Before arriving on Rocky Top, Anderson built a résumé that spans decades.

He began his coaching career at Emporia State in Kansas, followed by pitching coach stints at Howard, Texas Tech, and Texas.

From 2004 to 2012, he served as head coach at Oklahoma State, leading the Cowboys to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.

He later spent four seasons at Houston’s pitching coach before joining Vitello in Knoxville.
