One SEC Coach Thinks The Playoff Should Expand To Thirty Teams

By Cody McClure

Thirty teams. That’s what Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz wants in the College Football Playoff.

That might include just enough at-large spots for his team to get a bid.

Drinkwitz made an appearance today at SEC Media Days in Atlanta, which is where he delivered these comments:

“Forty-four percent of the teams in the NFL make the playoffs,” Drinkwitz noted. “We're talking about 10 percent of college football teams are gonna make the playoffs, and we think that's gonna keep fan bases encouraged?

"Now we're talking about an opportunity for 30 teams, 30 fan bases to be excited and engaged, giving revenue. Thirty teams with players who have access to compete for a championship. So for me, I think that makes a lot more sense.”

It’s an interesting concept.

Love it or hate it, it would create some meaningful games in November and December. Then again, it might further water down the regular season.
