Former Tennessee star Cordarrelle Patterson just pulled off the most hilarious NFL transaction announcement of the year, taking to Twitter to report his own release from the Pittsburgh Steelers that instantly went viral and generated widespread reactions throughout the football world.
The tweet from Patterson, has garnered over 30,000 likes and over four-million views within hours, confirmed his release before any official team statement from Pittsburgh.
Patterson, who was entering his 13th season in the NFL, was set to play the last year of his two-year, $6 million deal he signed with Pittsburgh in March of 2024. His release creates $1.85 million in cap space as the Steelers continue to evaluate their roster during training camp.
The 34-year-old veteran is a four-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, while holding the status as the NFL’s all-time leader in kickoff return touchdowns with nine.
Over the course of his 12-year career, Patterson has racked up more than 13,000 all-purpose yards during his time with six different NFL teams, including the Vikings, Raiders, Patriots, Bears, Falcons, and Steelers.
And if you were wondering, yes, Adam Schefter did confirm the report.
