‘Architect’ Of 2022 Vols Offense Talks About How Cool Tennessee Is

Maybe it’s a little extreme to call Alex Golesh the “architect” of the Vol Football offense from 2022.
That’s why I put it in “quotations” — so you’d think maybe someone else was saying it and not me.
Given the offensive drop-off the Vols have had the last two seasons in comparison to ‘22, some fans certainly feel this way.
I don’t know if it’s true or not. I, for one, am hoping Josh Heupel and company figure out how to light up the scoreboard this fall.
But anyway… Golesh, now the head coach of USF, recently made some comments about Tennessee.
“I felt like I had one of the best jobs in the country,” Golesh said on AFCA’s Inside the Headset. “I was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee, working for an incredible guy in Josh Heupel with an incredible staff. We were recruiting at a high level … There’s very few places like Tennessee.”
Golesh went on to discuss the power of the Tennessee brand and fan base and implied outsiders wouldn’t understand “unless you’ve been there.”
“Taking that program from really, really struggling to — we spent a portion of the year as the No. 1 team in the country…” Golesh continued. “And we played some incredible games. Like… big games in Knoxville, Tennessee. There's very few things cooler than that. And for me, I was with a bunch of really good people, making more money than I ever thought I would make.
“And there was nothing I wanted. It was going to take an opportunity that I thought I could be really, really successful at to even walk away from that, because I knew how fortunate I was to have that job. And I never took it for granted."
Congrats to Golesh for getting the USF job, but it’s safe to say the UT offense has been missing something since he left.
It may not be clear yet whether or not the correlation equals the causation and what not.
But if things don’t work out with Heupel… ya know… it’s nice to hear comments like this from a guy with UT ties.
