KNOXVILLE – For the second time in three weeks Tennessee sophomore right-hander Tegan Kuhns has earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors after a career-best performance Friday night against No. 4 Texas. The conference announced the award Monday following Kuhns’ career-high 15 strikeouts in Tennessee’s 4-1 win over the Longhorns.
Kuhns outdueled Texas ace Dylan Volantis, who allowed 3 earned runs across 5 innings. The sophomore left-hander has only two losses in his college career, both coming against Tennessee, including last season’s SEC Tournament matchup.
Kuhns delivered the most dominant start of his career. The Gettysburg (Pa.) native threw 113 pitches across 7 innings and struck out 15, getting his final punchout on pitch No. 113 as he fanned Casey Borba to strand two Longhorns and preserve a 3-0 lead.
Kuhns is scheduled to take the mound again Friday night as Tennessee travels to Norman for a three-game series with Oklahoma to close the regular season.
