KNOXVILLE – The Grim Reaper is back!

Tennessee utility man Blake Grimmer is withdrawing from this month’s MLB Draft and will return to Knoxville for his redshirt junior season, Mike Wilson of VolQuest first reported.

Grimmer, a native of Spring Lake (Mich.), delivered an impressive redshirt sophomore campaign in 2026. Helping lead Tennessee to the Chapel Hill Regional in Josh Elander’s debut season, he appeared in 48 games after missing the start of the season with lower back soreness and hit .283 with a .385 OBP while launching 13 home runs and driving in 36 runs.

A versatile piece during his first two seasons on Rocky Top, Grimmer is expected to take over first base next year but still offers the flexibility to slide to third base if needed.
