Well, that was quick.
Less than a week after being fired from Tennessee, Auburn is expected to add former defensive coordinator Tim Banks to its staff as safeties coach, per On3’s Justin Hokanson.
Banks, a Broyles Award finalist in 2024, struggled to replicate that success in 2025.
His Vols defense ranked second-to-last in the SEC in passing defense, surrendering 248.8 yards per game, and sat in the bottom half of the league against the run at 146.76 yards per contest.
Despite the rough finish, Banks brings extensive experience to Auburn.
He previously coordinated defenses at Illinois and Missouri before joining Tennessee in 2021.
His connection to new Auburn head coach Alex Golesh is notable as the two worked together on Rocky Top for two seasons.
Banks’ move from coordinator to position coach offers him a chance to reassess his career while providing Auburn’s secondary with an experienced leader.
