The midseason honors continue to pile up for the Volunteers.

Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar and wide receiver Chris Brazzell have earned spots on the Maxwell Award midseason watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced Thursday afternoon.

The Maxwell Award has been presented annually since 1937. It honors the college football player of the year and is considered one of the most prestigious individual awards in the sport.

The three finalists will be announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Nov. 25, with the winner revealed during the College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11.

Aguilar has been the engine of the Volunteers’ offense, leading the SEC in passing yards with 1,459 and is tied for the league lead in passing touchdowns with 13, highlighting his ability to stretch the field and keep defenses off-balanced.

His chemistry with Chris Brazzell has been a central storyline of the Tennessee season so far.

In his second year in Knoxville after transferring from Tulane, Brazzell has quickly emerged as one of the SEC’s most electric receivers.

He leads the league with seven touchdown catches and 531 receiving yards, firmly establishing himself as Joey Aguilar’s top target through five games.

As the Vols push deeper into SEC play, Aguilar and Brazzell will remain vital to Tennessee’s hopes of contending for a conference title.
