Vols Sweep Season Opener Vs. Nicholls St.
The Vols and Coach Elander jump start to a 3-0 record after outscoring the Nicholls State Colonels 27-3 across all 3 matchups this weekend in Knoxville.
Starting pitching dominated on the hill as Tegan Kuhns, Landon Mack and Evan Blanco combined for 26k’s across 17.2 innings pitched while only allowing 1 ER collectively. The bats were led by transfers Blaine Brown and Henry Ford, who introduced themselves with a bang over the weekend. Brown led the team with 8 hits and 3 HR’s while Ford mustered up a round-tripper to go with his 5 hits and a .417 average in 12 at bats.
Coach Elander addressed the media after the double header Saturday reflecting on the weekend and also gave an update on So. Infielder Manny Marin.
“Manny got hit with a pitch last weekend. He’s been kind of navigating that all week. We feel good about it. Woody and Klenck (Dr. Chris Klenck) have done an amazing job with him,” Elander said. He also goes on to say the colder weather may have tightened Marin up a bit, but the post-game x-rays were negative and he will be day-to-day.
Tennessee has a mid-week matchup this Tuesday, February 17th, hosting UNC-Ashville at 4:00pm at Lindsey Nelson.
