Vol Newcomer Wins SEC Defensive Player Of The Week in His First Game

Tennessee defensive back Colton Hood has won SEC Defensive Player of the Week after his first game with the Vols.

The SEC office announced its Week 1 awards today with Hood and Braylon Staley earning honors, per a UT release.

Hood finished with four tackles in his UT debut to go along with a fumble recovery touchdown that put the Vols up 17-0. The Colorado transfer also had three pass breakups.

Hood played all 84 defensive snaps for UT, per the release. He was Co-Defensive Player of the Week along with South Carolina linebacker Fred Johnson.

Staley was named SEC Freshman of the Week after his four-catch, 95-yard performance that included a sterling 73-yard touchdown reception.

He was the only player in the SEC with a 70-plus yard catch in Week 1.
