UT hoops has established itself as a top contender in the recruitment of one of the South’s most elite prospects.
Four-star small forward Gage Mayfield from Hale County High School in Moundville, Alabama announced his top-five schools Tuesday afternoon, with the Volunteers making the cut along with Michigan, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Florida State, per Rivals’ Joe Tipton.
Standing at 6-foot-7 and 190-pounds, Mayfield is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama and No. 68 nationally in the class of 2026.
Mayfield took an official visit to Knoxville from June 23-25 and spoke highly of Tennessee following the visit.
“It was good. They value their players. I’ve seen that they engage with their players a lot,” Mayfield told Zagsblog. “They stay in touch with their players, they check on them. They got a real good system.”
With only one other official visit scheduled to Tallahassee this weekend, no decision timeline has been announced for Mayfield, whose recruitment has drawn national attention after he averaged 13.0 points and 5.1 rebounds in 12 games on the Under Armor circuit.
