VFL Trey Smith Gets Emotional Talking About His Mom And His New Deal
By Cody McClure
Few things pull at the heartstrings more than a football player getting emotional talking about his mom.
That’s what happened recently with VFL and Kansas City Chiefs offensive guard Trey Smith when discussing his new contract — a contract that recently made him the highest-paid guard in NFL history.
Smith lost his mom when he was just 15 years old.
“And I made two promises to her — that I’d get my degree and play in the NFL,” he said before getting choked up. “I didn’t promise her I’d be the highest paid but I made a promise, man … My parents sacrificed so much for me.”
The VFL went on to discuss how special the moment was and said he wouldn’t take it for granted.
It’s nice to see a guy who truly deserves to get paid at the top level.
Remember the detractors in college? The blood clot issues? There were people who said Trey Smith would never play in the NFL.
Now he’s one of the top offensive linemen in the game. I’m sure ma would be proud.
