Tennessee became the latest major program to jump in on 2027 in-state tight end Colton Johnson, extending an offer Wednesday.
Johnson, a 6‑foot‑4, 235‑pound currently unranked prospect from Upperman High School in Baxter, has seen his recruitment explode over the last two months, holding over 40 offers, with Tennessee joining a list that includes Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida State, and Nebraska. Alabama offered just a day earlier, showing how quickly Johnson’s stock has risen among national powerhouses.
The junior tight end put together a strong 2025 season, finishing with 36 receptions for 615 yards and six touchdowns while helping lead Upperman to a 9–3 record. His size and athleticism at the position have made him one of the most intriguing offensive weapons in the state for the 2027 cycle.
Despite the surge in attention, Johnson has kept his visits limited so far. His only trips have been to Florida State for Junior Day and Purdue for an unofficial visit, but that is expected to change as he begins narrowing down his options and scheduling official visits for the summer months.
