Tennessee’s 2027 recruiting class took a minor hit on Friday morning as three-star cornerback Kamuri Whitfield announced he has reopened his recruitment.

The 5‑foot‑10.5, 185‑pound defensive back announced his commitment on X after verbally pledging to the Vols in Oct. of 2025.

“With all the defensive coaching changes I felt like I needed to step back and make sure I was making the best long‑term decision for me and my family,” Whitfield wrote. “Tennessee is still in my top schools.”

Whitfield, a top‑500 prospect nationally, has already begun mapping out his next steps.

He has scheduled four official visits for the summer, with plans to see Florida, Oregon, Nebraska, and Virginia Tech, per 247Sports Tom Loy

At this time, Whitfield does not have any visits scheduled to return to Knoxville.
