KNOXVILLE – After playing sparingly during his freshman season on Rocky Top, Tennessee right‑handed pitcher Sawyer Deering is expected to enter the transfer portal after one year in Knoxville, Ben McKee of 247Sports first reported.

Deering appeared in 10 games for the Vols in 2026, making no starts while posting a 0‑0 record and a 6.75 ERA. The Kimberly (Wis.) native struck out 5 batters across 6.2 innings, seeing limited SEC action with a 0.1‑inning outing against LSU and 0.2 scoreless innings against Alabama in Tennessee’s penultimate home series.

Listed at 6-foot and 198 pounds, Deering becomes the 16th Volunteer to enter the transfer portal, joining infielders Ethan Moore, Ariel Antigua, Finley Bates, and Manny Marin; outfielders Jay Abernathy, Hutson Chance, and Nate Eisfelder; utility players Chris Newstrom and Hunter High; pitchers Brayden Krenzel, Ari Bethea, Taylor Tracey, and Nic Abraham; first baseman/left-hander Evan Hankins; and catcher/outfielder Cash Williams.
