The weekly honors just keep coming for the Volunteers.

True freshman cornerback Ty Redmond has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week following his impressive performance in the Vols 42-9 win over New Mexico State.

The Alpharetta, Georgia native recorded a career-high five total tackles and snagged his second interception of the season, helping hold the Aggies offense to just nine points.

Redmond’s instincts and ball skills were on full display, continuing a trend of impact plays from the first-year corner.

Redmond had been thrown into early action this season due to the injuries in the Tennessee secondary.

Jermod McCoy remains sidelined with a torn ACL, while Rickey Gibson has been out since the Syracuse game with an upper-body injury.

In their absence, the true freshman has stepped up in a big way, leading all SEC freshmen with eight passes broken up, two interceptions, and 36 total tackles on the season.
