The Volunteers will host one of its top in-state targets this summer as 2027 four-star safety Jarrell Chandler has scheduled an official visit to Knoxville for the weekend of June 12, per Rivals’ Chad Simmons.

The Halls High School sensation, listed at 6-foot-2 and 197 pounds, is ranked the No. 323 prospect nationally and a top-15 player in the state of Tennessee.

Chandler has scheduled all four of his summer officials. He’ll head first to Clemson on May 29, Vanderbilt on June 5, visit to Tennessee on June 12, and wrap up at Virginia Tech on June 19.

The Knoxville native told Rivals that these visits will be central to his decision.

“These official visits are going to play a huge role in my decision. I plan to make a commitment and lock in with a school shortly after these visits,” Chandler said.

On the field, Chandler is coming off a strong junior season in 2025, posting 94 total tackles, eight pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one interception across 13 games.

His production, size, and tape have made him one of the most sought-after defensive backs in the southeast.

Tennessee’s new defensive staff under DC Jim Knowles has already made a strong impression, telling Rivals, “The new staff on defense is legit, they are the hometown team, and I have good relationships with the staff at Tennessee.”

The Vols will have to fight off a surging Vanderbilt program under Clark Lea, who is coming off a 10‑2 season and has the Commodores trending upward. Chandler’s recruitment seems to be shaping up as a choice between staying home in Knoxville or heading west to Nashville.
