‘It Could Have Gone One Of Two Ways’ … Ryan Day Recounts Tennessee Game
By Cody McClure
Ohio State football coach Ryan Day sat down recently with CBS Sports’ Josh Pate.
Day and the Buckeyes are coming off an impressive national championship run which saw them destroy Tennessee and Oregon in the College Football Playoff.
Pate asked Day at what point he knew each of those games were going to swing heavily in favor of Ohio State.
“The Tennessee game was when we came out of the locker room and there was orange in the crowd and I think everybody in that stadium felt like our backs were against the wall — including us,” Day said. “And at that moment it could have gone one of two ways.
“And our guys just went wild during the warmups. At that point I knew we were in a good place. The way we came out and played early in that first quarter, you knew we weren’t going to be denied.”
Day added that there was a lot of pent-up “stuff” over the last three weeks before that as a result of Ohio State’s loss to Michigan.
And the fact that a large portion of Ohio State’s fan base seemed to want to fire the head coach.
“An angry group of guys” responded, though.
Good to hear. Glad we could be the rebound for Ohio State. It’s nice that they had a team there in their home stadium to take out that frustration on.
As Tony Soprano once said, “what are you gonna do?”
