Is The Third Saturday In October The Best Rivalry In College Football?

By Cody McClure

No. It is 11th-best. According to some guy from The Athletic.

Scott Dochterman.

Don’t get mad at Scott. He’s just a writer. He’s not some doctor, man. Get it?

Scott doesn’t get it. If he got it he’d rank the Vols vs. Tide higher.

Here’s what Scott thinks:

This guy doesn’t know ball.

You’re really trying to sell me on Minnesota and Wisconsin being a better rivalry than the Third Saturday in October?

Why? Because they play for a fictitious axe?

I’m supposed to take the folklore of A GIANT LUMBERJACK more seriously than Tennessee vs. Alabama?

Ohio State-Penn State at No. 8?

Why? Because they have two of the biggest stadiums in the Midwest? Is this actually a rivalry?

To me this is a game they try to sell us on every year that ultimately just ends with Ohio State winning like 28-17.

I won’t go on forever but the rest of the Top 10 is just full of flaws. It’s like this Scott fella just pulled together a list of from the 1990s and regurgitated it.

Florida State appearing twice? I’m not saying the Noles won’t make a comeback someday but they are currently irrelevant. And that weak ass ACC doesn’t make me feel much better about Miami. Feels very 90s to have that game so high up.

No. 6 on this guy’s list is Nebraska-Oklahoma. Two teams that don’t even play regularly, that have in fact played only twice since 2010. Good shit, Scott.

No. 5 — USC and Notre Dame. I’m hitting the snooze on this one. Game hasn’t mattered since the Bush Push.

No. 4 — Army and Navy. Not really a rivalry, is it? More of a celebration of our nation’s Military Heroes, right? Am I wrong? Do Army and Navy hate each other?

I’ll give this guy a pass on his top three. Those are three good rivalries.

But when it comes down to it, the Third Saturday in October should rank a lot higher than 11th.

I’d say it deserves to be top four or five. At least top eight. 11th is silly.

Let me know when fake ass Paul Bunyan creates an atmosphere like this:
