Jim Chaney is back in Knoxville (well, sort of).

The longtime offensive coordinator, who previously led Jeremy Pruitt’s offense from 2019-2020, has returned to the program as remote analyst, Mike Wilson of Knoxville News Sentinel reports.

The News Sentinel also reported Chaney was hired by the Volunteers in late July.

Chaney has a deep history with Tennessee, as many of you might know.

He first joined the Vols in 2009 as offensive coordinator and running backs coach under Lane Kiffin during Kiffin’s lone season in Knoxville.

He was then offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Derek Dooley from 2010-2012, serving as the interim head coach for the season finale against Kentucky after Dooley’s dismissal.

After stints at Arkansas, Pitt, and Georgia, Chaney returned to UTK in 2019 to help guide the Tennessee offense under head coach Jeremy Pruitt for two years before Pruitt was fired in early 2021.

Back in a remote analyst role, Chaney’s experience and familiarity within the program make him a valuable resource on Josh Heupel’s staff.
