The writing was on the wall.
Tennessee legend Hendon Hooker has officially been cut by the Detroit Lions, as first reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garfolo.
The move comes ahead of the NFL’s final roster deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, when all 32 NFL teams must trim their active rosters down to 53 players.
“How much development do you believe there is?” Campbell said of Hooker following the team’s final preseason game. “We’re talking about Hooker right now, how much development do you believe there still is? Sometimes, does the player need a change of scenery?”
You can’t fault Campbell for his comments on Hooker.
The former No. 68 overall pick in the 2023 draft struggled mightily this preseason, throwing for just 178 yards across four games with zero touchdowns and three interceptions.
It’ll be interesting to see where the former 2022 SEC Player of the Year ends up.
Maybe a reunion in the state of Tennessee with the Titans could be in the cards.
Hooker played in three career NFL games for Detroit, making his debut against the Dallas Cowboys during the 2024 season. He completed one of two passes for 19 yards in the Lions’ blowout 47-9 victory.
