After taking an official visit in high school to Sean Miller’s Xavier squad, former Tennessee freshman guard Amari Evans will now be joining him in Austin, committing to conference foe Texas. Evans, a Pittsburgh native who played his senior season with Overtime Elite, appeared in 35 games during his lone year in Knoxville.
He made 2 starts and averaged 4.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game. His best performance came in Tennessee’s 86-82 home loss to Vanderbilt, where he scored a career-high 24 points on 9-for-18 shooting.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Evans also added 1.0 steals and 0.6 assists per game on 41.9% shooting from the field and now joins a Longhorns team that has had an impressive offseason so far in the transfer portal.
Evans marks the fourth Volunteer to announce his transfer portal destination, with forward JP Estrella heading to Michigan, guard Bishop Boswell going to Maryland, Jaylen Carey committing to Missouri, and forward Cade Phillips announcing he will be transferring to Texas A&M.
