Five‑star linebacker Cooper Witten committed to Oklahoma on Tuesday, choosing the Sooners over Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Georgia, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. The Argyle (TX) native is a top headliner in the 2027 cycle and the son of former Tennessee tight end and Dallas Cowboys star Jason Witten

Witten, ranked the No. 25 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite, had been viewed as a strong Tennessee lean. That changed the moment Oklahoma hired Jason Witten as its tight ends coach, a move that instantaneously shifted the momentum towards the Sooners.

Jason Witten was drafted by the Cowboys in 2003 and played fifteen seasons in Dallas before initially retiring following the 2017 season. He then returned to the field in 2019 with the Cowboys and finished his career with the Raiders in 2020. At Tennessee, Witten totaled 68 receptions for 797 yards and 8 touchdowns, earning First-Team All-SEC honors in 2002 and cementing himself as one of the best tight ends in program history.

Before joining Oklahoma’s staff, Jason Witten was the head coach at Liberty Christian High School in Argyle, where Cooper currently attends.
