After 14 years of a bitter and deliberate silence, the Border War is back, and the animosity hasn’t faded one bit.
To the casual fan, this might just look like another college football rivalry. It’s not– it’s a blood feud.
This game isn’t about bragging rights. This is 134 years of true disdain and hate that dates back to 1891.
“You have no earthly idea how great this rivalry is,” said Paul Finebaum, who personally pushed for ‘SEC Nation’ to broadcast live from Columbia instead of Ole Miss-Kentucky.
Mizzou students are crossing every “K” on campus, while Jayhawk students are scrubbing “M’s” from theirs– and it’s not just the students anxiously waiting for the return of the Border War.
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold and his wife were at church this past Sunday when a Jayhawk fan approached him saying “kick their butt.”
“But (they) didn’t say ‘butt’," Leipold told reporters. “And it was in church. I didn’t think it was appropriate.”
Former NFL lineman and eight-year veteran Justin Britt drove all the way out to Lawrence, Kansas just to run around Kansas’ newly renovated stadium waving a Missouri flag.
This is what we’ve been missing out on for 14 years. Thank God the almost decade and a half of dormancy is gone.
Saturday at 3:30 p.m in Faurot Field (even though it should be Arrowhead) will be Columbia’s rowdiest crowd in years.
Kansas enters with an offense led by sixth-year quarterback Jalon Daniels. The dual-threat quarterback has the calmness, arm talent, and especially mobility that can put immense pressure on the Missouri defense.
Missouri’s offense, fresh off a 61-6 dismantling of Central Arkansas, is building a dynamic and versatile attack.
Penn State transfer quarterback Beau Pribula shined in his Mizzou debut– granted, it was against Central Arkansas. He went 23-of-28 for 283 yards and two touchdowns through the air, adding 65 yards and two more scores on the ground.
The Border War is back and Fanrun will be there for the shit talk, fights, and all the madness.
Stay tuned for the recap article coming Tuesday.
It’s set to be one of the most unique games in college football this season.
