KNOXVILLE – Vols freshman left-hander Cam Appenzeller was named a Perfect Game Second Team Freshman All‑American on Thursday afternoon, earning recognition as one of the nation’s top relief pitchers.

Appenzeller, a native of Chatham, Illinois, delivered an outstanding freshman campaign on Rocky Top. He posted a 6-1 record with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP across 20 appearances, including 2 starts. The 6-foot-5 left hander struck out 64 batters in 56.2 innings, leading all Tennessee relievers in strikeouts.

Despite more than 15 Volunteers entering the transfer portal this offseason, Appenzeller is not among them. He announced his return for his sophomore season on June 2, giving Tennessee a key piece back in Josh Elander’s second season at the helm.
