Are The LA Dodgers Playing Rocky Top For Honorary VFL Mookie Betts?

It’s playoff baseball time in the MLB and Mookie Betts is already making plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

To some Tennessee fans, including myself, Mookie is an honorary VFL.

He’s a Nashville guy, and way back in the day (2010) he signed a letter of commitment to attend UT.

The thing is, he was just too good to play college ball, and the rest is history as he’s now one of the top players in the major leagues.

Last night Betts threw out another former Tennessee signee, Ke’Bryan Hayes, in the Dodgers 10-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

What made the play interesting was shortly after it when the Dodgers’ organist played a piece of Rocky Top.

I thought that’s what I heard watching the game live, but then second guessed it. Because why would the Dodgers be playing Rocky Top?

But others heard it too:

It must be an ode to Mookie’s former commitment to Tennessee.

There’s not much out there in terms of video of this moment, but I did find this post.

Another Tennessee fan account claims that the Dodgers do this all the time whenever Mookie makes a play, though I don’t think many of us had witnessed it before.

Pretty cool.
